We provide corporate management services to the majority of our subsidiaries and partnerships, ensuring holistic alignment to our vision. Additionally the group manages the development of core renewable energy projects.

Rob Hewett - Chair
Rob is the Co-Chair of Silver Fern Farms Limited, Chair Farmlands Co-operative Society Limited, New Zealand Woolscours Limited (Woolworks), Fern Energy Limited, Hilton Haulage Limited and Pioneer Energy Limited, as well as a Director of T&G Global Limited, Pulse Energy Limited, Silver Fern Farms Co-operative Limited and Woolcorp Limited.
Rob is immediate past chair of Silver Fern Farms Co-operative limited, a past Councilor of Lincoln University and previous Chair of the Strong Wool Action Group (now Wool Impact). He is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Directors and a graduate of Lincoln University, holding an M.Com (hons)- (Marketing)and a B.Com (Ag) (Economics).
Rob farms 10,000 sheep and beef stock units on a carbon negative breeding/finishing and forestry farm of 1020ha in Manuka Gorge, South Otago. Rob won the Deloitte Top 200 Chair of the Year award in 2023, and the Co-operative Business New Zealand Outstanding Contribution Award in 2019.

Bill Moran
Bill has extensive management and governance experience, including as Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Secretary of the NZ Treasury, with particular focus on economic, financial, and organisational strategy.
Currently, Bill holds governance roles with government, private sector, and charitable organisations. He is Deputy Chair of WorkSafe NZ and a council member of Te Pūkenga. He is an independent member of the Audit and Finance Committee of the Queenstown Lakes District Council.
He is Chair of Chamber Music At The World’s Edge Foundation NZ and a trustee of Youthtown, the Parliamentary Education Trust, Hoops and Life Awhi Trust, and Iti Kōpara.
In the 2019 New Year Royal Honours, Bill was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to State, Sport, and Youth.

Jackie Cheyne
Jacqueline is a professional director and is currently a Director of New Zealand Green Investment Finance Limited, Queenstown Airport Corporation and Stride Property Group. She is also a Member of the External Reporting Board where she chaired the committee responsible for the development of the climate risk reporting standards, the recently established Sustainability Reporting Board, Chair of Snow Sports NZ, and a member of the Audit Oversight Committee of the Financial Markets Authority.
Jacqueline has over 25 years of experience in financial audit and advisory services, including 11 years as a partner at Deloitte in audit and assurance. Jacqueline led Deloitte’s Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability services function for Deloitte New Zealand for nine years.

Tony Balfour
Tony has extensive global experience in a diverse range of industries and geographies. His executive experience includes senior roles at Nike, Lion Nathan, Icebreaker and Seek.com in NZ, Australia and USA.
Tony has been a director on the Boards of Silver Fern Farms, Methven Industries, Mt Difficulty Wines and Blis Technologies. He is currently an independent director on the Boards of The Warehouse Group, Les Mills International, and RealNZ.

Dr Don Elder
Don's a civil engineer and has worked in NZ, Canada, Australia, the UK and US. He's been CEO/MD of companies in resources, energy, construction and manufacturing and led startups and growth companies in the energy and tech sectors. Previous directorships include ASB Bank, Sovereign Life, Halifax Port Commission (Canada), Napier & Lyttelton Ports, Orion and Alpine Energy, CO2CRC (Australia), and as chair Infratec, Spanbild, Concision, CCN Health Alliance and Mutu, and industry/business organisations in NZ and internationally. Don’s currently also a director of Wenita (forestry) and CSI (earthquake resilience), chair of Family Help Trust and trustee of The Loft (social services).
He now lives primarily in Wanaka.

Michelle Morss - Board Intern
Currently managing a portfolio that includes Economic Development, Strategic Growth, Policy, Resilience and Climate Action, iwi relationships and the local government reform programme, Michelle has worked for QLDC for the past eight years. She is the primary QLDC liaison for the delivery of the district’s first Destination Management Plan and its keystone project to decarbonise the tourism system.
Prior to accepting the role to head up this new division within QLDC, Michelle’s focus was on pandemic recovery across the economic, environmental, social and cultural aspects of community wellbeing. With a background in the private sector, she started and grew a group of companies across Asia Pacific, working and living in Australia, Singapore and China. Originally from the UK, she holds Masters qualifications in Modern History and also Public Management. Today she is pleased to call Glenorchy home.

Fraser Jonker - Chief Executive Officer
Since assuming the role of Chief Executive at Pioneer Energy in 2010, Fraser has played a pivotal role in shaping the company's trajectory to its current success. Leveraging his extensive international experience in strategic management alongside his background in electrical the energy sector and asset management, Fraser has been instrumental in driving the company's growth and innovation.
With overarching responsibility for the performance of the Group and its subsidiaries, Fraser reports directly to the Pioneer Energy Group Board of Directors. His key areas of focus include investor relations, strategic planning, delivery of growth and overseeing the corporate governance structure.
Among Fraser's most notable achievements during his tenure at Pioneer Energy are the establishment of the Southern Generation and Ecogas partnerships.
The Southern Generation Limited Partnership, which has since been amalgamated into Pioneer Energy Renewables, was founded in 2015, enabling the development of a diverse portfolio of hydro and wind generation assets across New Zealand.
In 2019, Fraser led the creation of Ecogas, a business focussed on transforming inedible organic waste into forms of renewable energy. Under his leadership as Managing Director, Ecogas has experienced remarkable growth, with ongoing developments poised to further propel the business forward.

Jonathan West - Group Chief Financial Officer
Jonathan joined Pioneer Energy in 2015 bringing a wealth of international experience having worked across Aotearoa, Australia, the United Kingdom and North America.
Originally joining the business as the Chief Operations Officer, Jonathan moved to the familiar role of Chief Financial Officer in 2019.
A chartered accountant, with over 35 years experience across a range of industries, Jonathan has been instrumental in embedding process improvements and systems, raising equity, completing asset and business acquisitions all while managing shareholder and stakeholder expectations.
Supported by a highly skilled team, Jonathan is responsible for Finance, Sustainability, Asset Management, Compliance, Business Services and Investor Relations portfolios.
Jonathan's proudest achievements from his tenure include being a key part of the team that established the Ecogas business.
The business has continued to grow from strength to strength including being awarded tenders by both the Auckland Council and Christchurch City Council to process their kerbside collections.
Jonathan and his team have also established a sustainability framework and are working to embed and continuously mprove practices through the Group.

Dr Alzbeta Bouskova Houghton - Chief Technical Officer
Alzbeta joined the Pioneer Energy team in 2021 as the General Manager of the Ecogas partnership. Alzbeta is an industry leader and advocate for anaerobic digestion technology and it's place in providing responsible, circular solutions for inedible food waste. Alzbeta has over 15 years of international and local experience in the design and optimisation of anaerobic digestion facilities, backed by a Ph.D in Chemical engineering and a Masters of Business Administration. As the Convenor of the Biogas Interest Group for the Bioenergy Association and member of the World Biogas Association Council, Alzbeta has been crucial in establishing frameworks for the adoption of anaerobic digestion technology at scale in New Zealand.
As Chief Technical Officer, Alzbeta is responsible for the technical oversight of projects including the design and build of new organic processing facilities and upgrades to existing locations as well as providing general tehcnical support to the Ecogas team.
Alzbeta is proud of her and the wider team's achievements in developing, designing and commissioning New Zealand's first commercial scale organics processing facility using anaerobic digestion technology. In particular how the team have embrace the technology and the efforts being put into optimising processes and systems for the best outcomes.
Alzbeta has played a crucial role in Ecogas' successful bids to serve both Auckland Council and Christchurch City Council through processing their kerbside collections alongside the commercial and industrial sources.

Yvonne Malcolm - Group HR & Compliance Manager
Yvonne joined the Pioneer Energy team in 2014 as a Compliance Administrator, where she was recognised as a future leader. Yvonne has worked in a wide range of functions within the business including Health, Safety and Wellness, Market Risk Management, Contractual and Consent Compliance, Asset Management, Risk and Brand. Yvonne is now the Group Human Resources and Compliance Manager.
Yvonne is responsible for overseeing all human resource functions across the Group and relevant subsidiaries alongside managing the internal and external audit programmes and reporting on progress, opportunities for improvement and non-compliances to the Group Chief Financial Officer.
Yvonne's proudest achievements during her tenure include managing the project that resulted in Pioneer Energy being the first electricity generation company in New Zealand to receive the ISO 55 001 accreditation for Asset Management Systems. Yvonne has also spearheaded initiatives across health and safety including fostering a positive and proactive Health, Safety & Wellness (HSW) culture focussed on continuous improvement and implementing and embedding a HSW system accredited to ISO 45 001. In particular Yvonne initiated and developed the Pioneer Energy Information Day, bringing the whole company together from across New Zealand to promote discussions on all things health and safety, demonstrating practical improvements in safety objectives, overall policy compliance and working culture.

Darryl George - Group Health, Safety & Wellness Manager
Darryl brings over 20 years of specialist health, safety and wellness (HSW) experience to his role as Group Health, Safety & Wellness Manager. Darryl joined Pioneer Energy in 2022 having worked across Canada, America and New Zealand in a variety of industries including emergency management and alpine ski patrols. Darryl brings practical, risk focused approach to all things HSW that puts our people first.
As the Group HSW Manager, Darryl is responsible for delivering practical, fit for purpose frameworks and systems to the wider Pioneer Energy Group and subsidiaries. Supported by an experienced and specialist team, Darryl ensures compliance to and ongoing accreditation under ISO 45 001 and NZS 7901 for Occupational Health and Safety, and Public Safety Management respectively.
A key aspect of Darryl's role is continuing to foster a positive and proactive safety culture, ongoing interdepartmental and intercompany collaboration while monitoring performance against HSW objectives.
During his time at Pioneer Energy, Darryl and his team have implemented nationwide fleet management software and driven a company-wide focus on critical risks and their related controls. Ongoing improvements to wind tower safety processes and procedures feature in the pipeline of practical, proactive improvements being made to general work practices and risk assessments.

Peter McClean - General Manager, Pioneer Energy Renewables
Peter joined Pioneer Energy in 2011 as an electrical engineer, working across a number of sites, upgrades and new developments. Peter has moved into managerial roles taking on larger projects, geographically diverse portfolios of assets and teams. Working as the General Manager of Contracting expanded Peter's working knowledge of thermal assets alongside his existing expertise across hydro and wind generation sites. With over 15 years experience in the generation industry, Peter brings a combination of practical and theoretical knowledge to his role as General Manager of Pioneer Energy Renewables.
As General Manager, Peter is accountable for all aspects of health and safety, asset performance, strategic planning and fiscal management, reporting to the Board of Directors. Peter is supported by a highly skilled and experience team across Aotearoa, managing assets and projects across the hydro, thermal and wind generation spaces.
During his time with Pioneer Energy, Peter is proud to have led the teams that successfully developed and commissioned the Flat Hill Wind Farm, Matiri and Upper Fraser Hydro Schemes. These schemes play a key role in the Pioneer Energy Renewables Portfolio and represent significant capital investment in renewable energy assets.
Peter also initiated a large scale project to optimised the Teviot Hydro Scheme. The Scheme consists of 10 individual assets. The project sought to increase generation efficiencies as a whole, resulting in significant improvements and material efficiency gains.

Sharnie Warren - CEO Pulse Energy
Sharnie joined Pulse Energy in October 2012 as the Marketing Manager. Sharnie was resonsible for all marketing and sponsorship projects for Pulse Energy, Just Energy and Grey Power Electricity.
In 2015, Sharnie was promoted to General Manager External Relations and Communications and then promoted to General Manager Customer Experience in November 2019. Sharnie led the Customer Experience Teams which included Sales, Marketing, Customer Care, Resolutions, Payments Solutions, Training and Quality along with being responsible for the strategic development of external partnerships.
In October 2021, Sharnie was promoted to Chief Executive Officer, recognising her brand building skills and leadership in creating an industry leading customer experience.
Prior to joining Pulse, Sharnie was an Account Manager at Fairfax Media for 2 years. She has worked in New Zealand and England in Marketing, Account Management and Recruitment. Sharnie has a BCom (Hons) from the University of Otago.
